Our Artists
Misoko
A native of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, born in 1987, Misoko is a contemporary painter known for his vibrant style of "spontaneous realism." Misoko's canvases burst with bright colors and textured brushstrokes. He uses this energetic style to celebrate his homeland, capturing the essence of African culture – its fashions, traditions, and shared humanity – through captivating portraits and scenes of everyday life. Interestingly, the artist himself sometimes makes an appearance in his paintings, depicted from behind. Misoko's artistic focus centers on the human experience, particularly the beauty and strength of women. He finds endless fascination in portraying hairstyles and aesthetics, reflecting the joy inherent in Africa and the wider world. His color palette is a deliberate choice, often vibrant and alive, or sometimes soft and childlike, symbolizing peace – a necessary element for global progress. Misoko's art not only celebrates feminine beauty but also conveys a deep appreciation for the inherent goodness he sees in women. Now firmly established in Kinshasa, Misoko has primarily exhibited his work within the Congo. However, his artistic journey is taking an exciting turn, and he is eager to share his vibrant vision with the world.
